Jirongo died in a fatal road accident on the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway in the early hours of Saturday, December 13.

His Mercedes-Benz car, which he was using to go to Nairobi, hit a passenger bus that was heading towards him kiss from Nairobi.

He suffered serious injuries and died on the spot.

The president joined other leaders to mourn the politician.

Ruto paid tribute to Jirongo, praising him as a determined leader, a seasoned entrepreneur, and a politician whose impact was felt across Kenya’s political and economic spheres over the years.

“I am deeply saddened by the death of my friend, former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo. Jirongo was a tireless man, an experienced businessman, and a consummate politician who refused to be defined, let alone defeated, by the challenges of life. He was a fighter in every sense: honest but cheerful, brave but approachable, knowledgeable and an endless entrepreneur. Above all, he was generous to a fault; he was willing to give, uplift, and support others with his time, resources, and his faith,” the president noted.

Ruto emphasized that Jirongo’s contributions played an important role in strengthening Kenya’s democratic journey and left a lasting mark in the nation’s political history.

“Never one to shy away from a tough stance or a big idea, he lived on his own terms and left an indelible mark on our political landscape. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this difficult time. Rest in peace, my friend,” Ruto added.

Jirongo, widely recognized for his courage, exuberance, and entrepreneurial spirit, rose to national prominence in the early 1990s through the influential “Youth for KANU ’92” movement.
