Tirus Kamau, who was driving a Climax Coaches bus, said the accident happened at Karai in Naivasha along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway early Saturday.

Kamau explained that Jirongo was alone in his Mercedes-Benz car, heading to Nairobi from Nakuru.

He noted that the former Lugari Member of Parliament had just exited the petrol station when he turned and entered the wrong lane.

At that time, the bus was on its way kiss from Nairobi.

Kamau said that Jirongo’s car seemed to avoid traffic on its side of the road and suddenly crossed the road where the bus was approaching fast.

The 52-year-old driver said he tried to avoid the collision but could not, as further deviation would have endangered the bus and its passengers. With no safe alternative, he braked, but the van still hit the bus.
