  • Gachagua vows to stop Ruto’s attempts to divide Mount Kenya, warning that unity could deny him any chance in 2027

Former Vice President Rigathi Gachagua he insists that he is in the best position in his mission to challenge President William Ruto’s hold on power.

According to him, the location of Mt. Kenya will be the main obstacle to the quest Ruto for re-election in the 2027 vote.

Gachagua claimed that the counting power of his area is increasing rapidly, and that the number of votes will increase significantly in the next two years.

“This mountain has six million votes, and the way I see it, it will reach eight million. President William Ruto has been blocked, from the mountain, the lower east, the west, Nairobi, and the coast,” Gachagua said.

The DCP party leader claimed that Mount Kenya is Ruto’s main political head, comparing the situation to that of the late Daniel arap Moi during the 1992 general election.

He noted that Moi’s administration had become increasingly popular at the time, forcing him to strategize for re-election.

Gachagua said Moi divided Mount Kenya by sponsoring candidates to divide votes for his benefit.

According to him, that remains the only viable strategy in Ruto’s line.

“He has found himself in the same position that Moi was in in 1992. Moi was blocked at that time. However, he was cunning, while we in Mount Kenya did not have good strategies. He came here, and the mount rejected him, just as it rejected Ruto today. Moi knew that in order to succeed, he had to divide this region. Kenneth Matiba contested and won votes in Murang’a, Kiambu, Nairobi, and Nakuru. Mwai Kibaki contested with to get support from Nyeri, Kirinyaga, and Embu. Jaramogi Oginga Odinga got more votes and won them. We failed to learn, and we repeated the same mistake in 1997,” he said.

Gachagua noted that Mount Kenya is currently in the same condition as in 2002.

He said that, at that time, his home region had learned from its past mistakes and united to defeat Moi’s side, which had preceded the former President. Uhuru Kenyatta.

Gachagua claimed Ruto is now trying to divide Mt Kenya to find an easier way in 2027.

“In 2002, the elders realized that we cannot be the majority and still divide ourselves. We united, and Kibaki defeated Uhuru Kenyatta. What is happening today is that Ruto and his allies believe the only way they can get a chance is by dividing the Mount Kenya vote. If it is not divided, there will be no reason for him to compete. His mission is to divide the area, but I will not allow him to succeed,” he said.
