Instead, the community faced an unimaginable loss as nine victims lost their lives on November 26 after three who were traveling to fall in Kijabe, Kiambu County.

The car, which was carrying 15 passengers, was on its way from Nairobi to Lugari when the accident happened, ending a journey meant to reunite a grieving family.

The call that broke the hearts of the whole family

For the parents of the deceased, the pain is still unimaginable. Irene Haron, a mother of nine, recalled receiving calls from her children, assuring her that they were near Naivasha and would be home in the afternoon.

Moments later, his world came crashing down.

“I don’t even know what to say. All nine of my children, they are all gone,” she said, trembling as she struggled to express her grief. “Every time I think about it, I just shudder.”

Her husband, Elder Haron Tsivona, remembers receiving a call from an unknown number while he and other relatives were singing at his mother’s house.

When he received the call, it was a traffic policeman informing him that his family members had been involved in an accident.

“Just a few minutes earlier, my children had called to say they were about to come home,” she recounted, her voice thick with disbelief.
