During Beryl Achieng Odinga’s funeral on Saturday, December 6, in Siaya, Mama Ida participated in the ongoing debate about the future of the Orange Party.
In her speech, Mama Ida firmly stated that Siaya senator Oburu Oginga is the current ODM leader following the death of Raila Amolo Odinga.
According to Ida, ODM has no other leader so far, wanting to be recognized for her brother-in-law’s tenure in the party.
“I know the world must go on, and I know the work must go on. In our family, the Odinga family, the head of the family is Dr. Oburu Oginga. Apart from the family, there is ODM, and ODM people have spoken. ODM people have spoken here. The leader of the ODM party is Oburu. So many who write in stories, on Facebook, and to the party leader, to Oburu. And please let’s continue like that,” Mama Ida said.

Facing X, Cherargei said Mama Ida has put the issue of the leader of the ODM party in the wrong place by publicly recognizing her brother-in-law’s position.
According to the mock Nandi senator, some party leaders had started to take that step in the wrong direction.
Following Mama Ida’s remarks, Cherargei wanted the Siaya governor fired James Orengo and Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, who he claimed were saboteurs of the wider government.
“Thank you Mama Ida Odinga, for putting this issue of the leadership of the ODM Party in the wrong place by showing that Senator Oburu Odinga is the leader of the ODM party under the broad government. Political fraudsters were already stealing and weakening the party in the wrong direction. The last part now is to clean the ODM Party from political parasites and saboteurs of the broad government like Orengo, Sifuna, etc. In honor and legacy of Father Raila Odinga,” Cherargei said.
