Speaking at the funeral of her brother-in-law, Beryl Odinga on Saturday, December 6, Ida referred to events in the party, where members are divided, while others seem to be planning a coup.
What Ida Odinga said about ODM
He noted that Oburu was not only the leader of the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga family because he was the eldest son of the late Jaramogi but also the one who was entrusted with the leadership of the Orange party.
According to Ida, ODM does not have another leader so far, wanting to be recognized for her brother-in-law’s tenure in the party.

He appreciated that the leadership may change and other people be appointed to lead the party, but until then, the body is under the supervision of the Siaya senator.
“I know the world must go on, and I know the work must go on. In our family, the Odinga family, the head of the family is Dr. Oburu Oginga. Apart from the family, there is ODM, and ODM people have spoken. ODM people have spoken here. The leader of the ODM party is Oburu. So many who write in stories, on Facebook, and to the leader of the party, until Oburu is like that. And please let us continue like that,” he said.
Since the Siaya senator took the position of party leader in ODM, groups within the party have been seen to question his tenure.
Should Oburu Oginga lead ODM?

During the ODM@20 celebrations in Mombasa, Winnie noted that her late father was a person with the skills and authority to lead ODM and manage its complex political activities, including a broad contract with the President William Ruto.

However, responding, Oburu Oginga disputed his remarks, insisting that he had the ability to carry on Raila’s legacy and lead the party forward.
How Oburu Oginga responded to Winnie Odinga’s concerns
He recounted his long association with Raila’s political journey, saying that he used to attend and understand his brother’s actions.
Oburu emphasized that, being Raila’s elder brother, he had the qualities to advise him when necessary, while giving him the respect he deserved in the political arena.
Responding to Winnie’s remarks, the senator indicated that he would address his concerns privately but insisted that he was ready to take over the leadership of ODM with the same strength and action that Raila had shown throughout his tenure.
He confirmed that he had taken over the reins of the party and promised to follow Raila’s vision without fear.
Oburu further appealed to ODM members to support him as he leads the party forward.
