The accident involved three (PSV) and a trailer happened on Sunday, December 7, in the Miasenyi area on the Voi-Samburu road corridor.
What did MAK say about the Mombasa-Nairobi highway accident?
Confirming the incident, the Kenya Motorists Association (MAK) said the accident involved a matatu owned by the Kinatwa Sacco Shuttle company.
MAK blamed the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) for its reluctance to upgrade the busy highway to a dual carriageway.

“Kinatwa is heading for Mombasa, a trailer straight. Several travelers have died. Three people were reported to have survived with serious injuries. We blame KeNHA for not doing it for 20 years to make the road two-way,” MAK said.
Preliminary investigations show that the PSV matatu was heading towards Mombasa before it collided head-on with the trailer, which was heading in the opposite direction.

Following the impact of the accident, both vehicles ended up off the road.
According to the witnesses of the incident, the matatu owned by the Kinatwa company was heading towards Mombasa and was passing other vehicles before colliding with the truck.
Photos seen by TUKO.co.ke show that the front of the PSV vehicle was badly damaged, while the trailer sustained minor damage.
Following the incident, other drivers, police, and emergency services arrived at the scene to assess the situation and rescue the survivors.
Citizen TV reported that seven people died on the spot, while others sustained serious injuries.
The bodies of the deceased, including the driver, have been taken to the Moi-Voi Referral Hospital mortuary.

A road accident on Friday, December 5, afternoon left families in mourning and raised new concerns about road safety along the Bumala-Port Victoria route.
According to authorities, the matatu was traveling from Bumala town to Port Victoria when it suddenly left the road and overturned.
Initial reports indicate that the car may have had a flat front tire, a mechanical fault that may have caused the driver to lose control.
What followed was a violent overturn that left the 14-seater matatu damaged on the side of the road as residents rushed to pull survivors from the wreckage of the vehicle.
