However, his difficult time in America has proved that he is also human after all and can be worried at times.
In a tense moment at the high-profile diplomatic forum in Washington DC, Ruto appeared restless as he asked the US president Donald Trump to help solve the growing crisis in Sudan.
The passionate request came during the signing of a landmark peace agreement between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda on Thursday, December 4.
How did Ruto praise Trump?
Addressing an audience of African leaders, diplomats, and international stakeholders, Ruto began by praising the signing as a decisive act to end the deadly conflict that has ravaged the Great Lakes region.
He emphasized the impact of prolonged instability, noting that the violence has destroyed lives, disrupted entire communities, and threatened the economic prospects of the east African region.
Ruto praised the coordinated efforts behind the peace accord, which he said was forged through the Nairobi, Luanda, and Washington processes.
“Achieving this point was possible due to the unparalleled and important power of uniting the United States and President Trump’s sincere and serious commitment to world peace. His clarity of purpose and ability to bring together stakeholders has been very important. Therefore, we are very grateful to President Trump, whose courageous leadership has been important in bringing about this success,” Ruto said, recognizing Trump’s role.
Ruto’s speech emphasized the link between peace and development, saying that eastern DRC could be one of the biggest economic opportunities in Africa, using its vast natural resources, young population, and regional business infrastructure under the African Continental Free Trade Area.

Ruto said predictable governance and stable markets would attract private investment and spur sustainable growth, drawing from Kenya’s system of public-private partnerships.
Was Ruto nervous speaking in front of Trump?
Ruto also used the platform to promote regional economic integration, explaining that it is important to reverse Africa’s historical pattern of exporting raw materials while importing high-cost finished goods. “A peaceful and inclusive Great Lakes region will accelerate such innovation. Predictable governance reduces risk, streamlined regulations reduce costs, and open borders increase trade, attracting value-added industries to our continent,” he noted.
But the speech took a critical turn when Ruto moved from celebrating the DRC-Rwanda agreement to addressing another ongoing crisis.
With a mixture of reluctance and determination, he directed his message to Trump, asking for help in resolving the crisis in Rwanda.
In a brief moment that has gone viral on social media, Ruto muttered incoherently, attracting immediate attention.
“In conclusion, when we celebrate progress in the DRC, we should not ignore other conflicts. I want to respectfully ask you, President Trump, in your pursuit of peace and international solidarity, to support efforts to resolve the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Sudan. Thank you,” Ruto said.

“The English language is not ours, it is still Wantam.”
Susan Kimemia:
“Haiya, when did Ruto start stuttering??”
Dennis Mogere:
“He completely avoided looking at Trump.”
The Muswamba Ngomba:
“Tanzanians should be laughing a lot following Ruto’s speech while Kenyans are always mocking them about being white. Mr. President should have given his speech in Kiswahili or Kikuyu instead of speaking English in Kikuyu.”

Why did Sudan rebuke Ruto?
On February 18, a meeting of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a rebel group from Sudan accused of genocide and war crimes, was held at the Kenyatta International Conference Center (KICC) in Nairobi.
The meeting aimed to launch what RSF described as a “Political Agreement for a Government of Peace and Unity.”
The government of the Republic of Sudan responded strongly, condemning the incident as a violation of international law and a violation of Sudan’s independence.
