Elected Member of Parliament Joseph Hamisi Dies, Speaker Moses Wetang’ula Announces

  • The Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula has announced the death of Hon. Denar Joseph Hamisi, an elected Member of Parliament who joined Parliament under the former ANC party
  • Wetang’ula praised him as a humble and diligent member of parliament who was dedicated to serving members of parliament and ordinary citizens
  • The Prime Minister of the Council of Ministers Musalia Mudavadi also mourned Hamisi, praising his principled leadership and the ability to inspire respect in the political divide

The Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula has announced the death of another member of the 13th Parliament.

In a statement issued on Saturday, December 6, he informed the National Assembly and the nation about the death of Denar Joseph Hamisi.

“It is with great sadness that I inform the Parliament and the entire community of Members of Parliament about the sudden death of the Member of Parliament, the late Hon. Denar Joseph Hamisi, Member of Parliament, who died today, Saturday, December 6, 2025 at about 7:00 am,” the speaker’s statement read.

He entered Parliament under the now defunct Amani National Congress (ANC), which at the time was led by the Secretary General of the Council of Ministers Stay Mudavadi.

Wetang’ula praised Hamisi as a dedicated member of parliament who put the interests of the Cabinet and ordinary citizens ahead of his work.

“He served the National Assembly diligently and dedicatedly as a member of the Committee on the Department of Sports and Culture and the Select Committee on National Parity and Equal Opportunities,” the Speaker said.

The Speaker offered his condolences to the bereaved family, conveying the condolence message of the Parliament to relatives and friends.

“He will be remembered for his humility and his dedication to serve the nation. His death is a great loss not only to the Parliament but also to the country as a whole. On behalf of all the Members of Parliament and the staff of the Parliament, and indeed on behalf of myself, I offer my condolences to the family and friends of the late Denar, and to all who experienced his humility and his dedication to serve the nation and society,” he added.

The Speaker announced that the Parliament will work with the family to plan the funeral of the member of parliament, with a team of members of parliament led by Owen Baya, Member of Parliament for Kilifi North and Deputy Leader of the Majority Party.

Mudavadi also joined in mourning, describing Hamisi as a principled and courageous leader.

“Denar was a diligent, honest, and strong leader who stood firm in his principles. He was never swayed by political currents that he did not believe in. His open character and his unique ability to motivate and inspire others made him respected in the political divide. I send my sincere condolences to his family, relatives, friends, and colleagues in Parliament at this difficult time,” Mudavadi said.
