The county leader warned the residents of Mount Kenya against joining the former vice president as the political situation in the region escalates as the 2027 General Election approaches.

How is Gachagua deceiving the residents of Mt Kenya?

During the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) – Kirinyaga Central Campus, Friday, December 5, Waiguru he said the region is at risk of being deceived if it allows Gachagua to organize himself as his political spokesman.

Waiguru insisted that he could not cooperate with him and accused him of trying to lead residents down a path with no future.

The county leader explained to the crowd that his removal from Gachagua in October 2024 has already made him no longer eligible for appointment under the 2010 Constitution.

He argued that helping him would be pointless, claiming he had no political agenda to offer the constituency.

“You still have time because the election has not come. Think carefully. If he has no position anywhere, where will this person you follow him take you? And it’s not that he can compete for any seat. He can’t, the Constitution doesn’t allow him. It’s not me, it’s the Constitution. Just like I can’t run for Kirinyaga governorship for the third term because the Constitution says so. But now you’re following someone who doesn’t know where he’s going, where will he take you? He can’t run for any seat because you’re not allowed. There’s no seat, not even MCA, which can be granted because the Constitution prohibits it,” said the county leader.

Waiguru urged residents to think about their political choice as 2027 approaches, saying constant movement and noise does not always mean victory.

Using simple examples, Waiguru compared politics to school attendance, telling residents that “100% attendance” is not the same as passing an exam.

“It’s like a child who wakes up to go to school, going every day does not mean passing the exam. You can have 100% attendance, but when you come to the exam, you get 20%. Have you passed or failed?” asked Waiguru.

Waiguru also rejected allegations that he plans to leave the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to join the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).

He made it clear that he would not join the party, stressing that his loyalty still lies with the government coalition.

Beyond his criticism of Gachagua’s political future, Waiguru questioned his perceived position as Mt Kenya’s political spokesperson.

He questioned that no one appointed him to be the main leader and reminded the residents that the former president Uhuru Kenyatta he is still the recognized leader of the area.

“Kenyatta was given the responsibility to lead Mlimi, and we are not taking that responsibility. Gachagua should not be proud to be the spokesperson of our region,” said Waiguru.

According to Waiguru, Gachagua’s influence has decreased because he lowers the respect of appointed leaders, a behavior which he said has contributed to his party being rejected by the people.

He asked the residents to ignore efforts to liken some leaders as dividing them and instead consider joining the government to continue benefiting from development projects.

Waiguru said the region cannot take itself outside the government, especially when important projects and national selections still depend heavily on being close to power.

He emphasized that whatever government is elected in 2027, Mt Kenya must remain “within”, not alone or on the side of the opposition.

“I am not insulting. But he comes here insulting me from morning to evening. We leaders must tell them the truth. I say that whatever government will be in power in 2027, we will be there,” he said.

Waiguru emphasized that the former vice president is deceiving the residents by holding political ambitions that the Constitution does not allow him to pursue.
