Tshisekedi in his speech recognized the leaders who laid the foundation for this success, mentioning Uhuru and Lourenço for starting peace talks in Nairobi and Luanda, which have been the pillars of regional diplomacy in recent years.

He called the leaders people who forced negotiations when trust was low and tension was high.

“These two prominent Africans were there at the beginning; they are the ones who started the Nairobi and Luanda process,” he said.

Tshisekedi said the Washington agreement gathers all the necessary pieces to end the long cycle of violence, political commitments, a peace agreement, a declaration of principles, and a map of economic cooperation.

Why did Ruto, Kagame praise Trump?

As previously reported, Kagame confirmed Rwanda’s readiness to implement the agreement, saying the responsibility now lies with African nations and their allies to support and maintain peace.

Ruto hailed the agreement as a victory for long-term regional diplomacy, noting that the processes in Nairobi, Luanda and now Washington have brought the impetus that made the achievement possible.
