The Busy Busy singer died of a serious form of leukemia while being treated at the Kenyatta National Hospital.
Betty’s death has left a void not only in the Gospel music industry, but also in the home she shared with her two children and her husband, Hiram Gitau, popularly known as Tash.
As fans continue to mourn, a different conflict has been rising: Who should have custody of Betty’s children now that she has died?
What did Betty’s brother say about the child custody debate?
During the recent session of TikTok Live, Betty’s brother, Edward Kang’ethe Mbugua, shared the few known details about the events that led to her death.
According to him, the family got information about his serious condition when it was already late, he was fighting for his life in the hospital.
Mbugua also spoke about the fierce debate that emerged on the internet about the future of Betty’s children, Sky Victor and Danivictor, who she had shared with her ex-husband. Pastor Victor Kanyari.
Betty broke up with Kanyari soon after the famous KSh 310 scandal. Later she started a relationship with Tash and they started living together in Edenville Estate, where they lived as a family.
However, despite the children’s good relationship with Tash, Mbugua insisted that the children should remain in Kanyari’s care.
According to her, Betty’s children still have a living father, who continued to support them even after the divorce.

“Our main interests are the children and where they will live. You should not tell me that the children have the freedom to choose where they will live. I think Sky and Dani have a father who is alive, and he is still alive. Kanyari, take your children and let’s stop these episodes. No one should tell me that we want to take them to the place where Betty separated from them. It was Betty who divorced Kanyari, not the children; they have a good relationship. Mbugua noted that when the children reach legal age, they will be free to choose who they want to live with, but for now, it is not a decision they are allowed to make.
He issued a warning saying:
“I don’t think anyone has the right to leave with my sister’s children, thinking they can use them wherever they like.”
He also revealed that the ongoing debate has upset Kanyari emotionally, claiming that the pastor even recently contacted him to discuss the matter.
“We cannot leave Kanyari, he is our blood, we are connected by blood through those children,” he added.
Mbugua added that Kanyari had seen Sky and Dani a few days after Betty’s death.
However, he did not enter his house and only met them at the gate of the residence.
Were Betty Bayo and Tash legally married?
In another video he shared on his TikTok page, Mbugua claimed that his sister and Tash were not legally married.
He explained that their relationship did not progress to the level of official traditions or contracts.
