What happened to Beryl Odinga?
Beryl, who is Raila’s sister, was battling cancer for several years, and due to the disease, she could not attend her brother’s funeral.
His daughter, Chizi, wept at the funeral, recalling her mother’s last words after hearing that Raila had died in India.
He explained that his mother cried as she had nothing more to do in the world now after losing her beloved brother.

During the arrival of the body of the deceased at the Kisumu airport, Tabu, dressed in black from head to toe, thanked the mourners for attending.
Many were stunned by how much Winnie and her aunt looked alike.
Taboo said: “I am the sister-in-law of Auntie Beryl, in the sense that I am the widow of her younger brother. In just two months as Odinga’s family, I must say we have lost two good souls. We are tired, we are very hurt. But we believe God is there. And He will give us strength,” he said.
He also thanked all the friends and family who spent their time traveling and mourning with them in Kisumu before continuing Bondo.
“Mine is to thank you and show you that the Odinga family appreciates your efforts. Continue to have a good heart,” he said.
In addition, he delivered his last message to Beryl in the Zimbabwean language, showing a unique respect.
Ruth Odinga’s words
At the memorial service for Beryl, his younger sister, Ruth Odingahe paid a special tribute remembering how he raised him.
She shared how Beryl would comb her hair and bathe her because she lived in her house with her other children.
According to Ruth, she also ran to her sister in Zimbabwe, and that’s where she learned how to be a strong woman in leadership.
Ruth mourned her sister as her best friend and realized how much she would miss the memories they had together that changed her life.
He also revealed that he was his guardian and recalled how they thought of ways to break Raila’s death to him.
