It is said that Mbijiwe was kidnapped on June 12, 2021, near Roysambu in Nairobi, while on his way to Meru county.
His mother, Jane Gatwiri, had earlier claimed that her son was taken away by suspected plainclothes security officers in an unmarked car.
The family also claimed that Mbijiwe had previously reported threats to his life.
Why did Evans Ondiek cry outside the Hill Court?
Appearing in court on Wednesday, December 3, Ondiek revealed that the DPP said they had received the police file but could not disclose its contents, instead proposing to open an investigation.
“They want to start an investigation. They can’t start an investigation unless they know he’s not alive,” he said.
“We want them to bring the police file and tell us who the complainant was, what they were investigating, and why it took them four years to come and tell us that he is not there. Even in a dictatorship, people are given a chance. Life is more important than money,” he said while demanding transparency.
He further warned against greed among leaders, noting that every life is important and promised to fight for Gatwiri to get justice.
“It is very painful because we are parents, we have children, and someone comes and tells you … it is bad. Greed and hatred will not take us anywhere. You kill, why? It is very difficult to know that they killed Mbijiwe,” he said while crying.
Gatwiri told the court that the former vice president Rigathi Gachagua he had promised the family that his son would be released after the 2022 elections.
Who kidnapped Mwenda Mbijiwe?
He claimed that a former government official, a former governor of Meru, and three other prominent leaders were involved in his son’s disappearance, claiming they conspired to jail him.

Despite this, he expressed hope that Mbijiwe is alive and still in Nairobi.
“If they killed my son, they will pay soon. God is watching over them,” he said.
The high court ordered the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and DCI appear in person and tell the truth about the missing security consultant on December 16 at 5 am.
The order followed years of unanswered questions, unfulfilled court orders, and growing frustration from Mbijiwe’s family, who insist government agencies are withholding important information about his fate.
What is Mbijiwe’s conversation with his mother?
Meanwhile, TUKO.co.ke previously reported Gatwiri’s last conversation with his son before his disappearance.
She said her son called from Nairobi after attending a church safety training, informing her that he was driving his own car home. Nanyuki.
He asked her to prepare mukimo, which was his favorite dish. He warned that he would be late. Gatwiri cooked as requested, but Mbijiwe never returned.
