COTU secretary general Francis Atwoli has launched a fierce attack against the former Kakamega senator Cleophas Malala and the family of the former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua.

The veteran labor leader accused them of distorting the results of the Kisa East ward by-election, claiming that he had suffered a political blow.
Atwoli’s strong response to Malala’s allegations In a strong video that he released, Atwoli dismissed the allegations and called them deliberate distortions aimed at showing him to be powerless.
He insisted that he had nothing to do with the election and said the narrative pushed by the two leaders is a way to provoke him.
Atwoli said that Kisa East Ward, where the by-election was held, is being wrongly presented as his political home by Malala’s camp.
He said: “I have heard a lot of nonsense or nonsense speeches made by members of the opposition regarding their recent election. What I want to say is this: someone claiming that he won Khwisero, where Atwoli comes from, and in my ward, that is the highest level of stupidity I have ever seen. Khwisero is a constituency with several wards,” said Atwoli.
He clarified that he is from Khwisero Central Ward, not Kisa East, and said the opposition is using geographical confusion to claim a false victory.
Atwoli went on to explain that his ward is represented by a KANU MCA, not the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) led by Gachagua.
He emphasized that he had no reason to campaign in a ward that is not his and he can never get involved in campaigns at the MCA level.
Atwoli said it is “stupid” for politicians to claim that he has lost in a race he was not a part of.
He emphasized that pursuing MCA positions does not match his status and responsibilities, saying that leaders of his level conduct national campaigns, not grassroots ones.
Can Atwoli stop Gachagua and Malala from rising?
He told Gachagua and Malala to wait for 2027 if they want to understand his political power, warning that he will stop them personally.
Atwoli said he has the political weight and networks to prevent Malala from rising politically in Kakamega and to block Gachagua’s national plans.
He said:
“I will stop them. I will stop them. I have the power to stop Malala from becoming anything in Kakamega. I have the power to stop Gachagua from becoming anything in the Republic of Kenya. I have the power. And I think my power is greater than Gachagua’s. I have been in public life before him. I am old, and they must respect me,” Atwoli warned.
He described Malala, who is the deputy leader of the DCP, as a “boy of the fields” who has no real influence in Kakamega politics, asking Gachagua not to waste his resources on him.
Atwoli claimed that the former secretary general of UDA he cannot bring any meaningful help to Gachagua in that area.
He said: “Malala should not lie to Gachagua that he will be elected to Kakamega for anything. No one, and if I were Gachagua, I would not waste a cent on Malala. Malala is just his boy. It is not something Kakamega. It is not something Kakamega. Someone tell Gachagua that Malala is not something Kakamega.”

The COTU leader warned that they are playing with a veteran national leader who has been in public leadership for decades and deserves respect.
He said he was also out of the country for most of the campaign period, explaining that he traveled to Geneva after appearing briefly in Malava during the campaign.
The long-time labor leader said Malala and Gachagua are deliberately provoking him by dragging him into local politics, and vowed to give them a lesson in 2027 to end the issue.
He ended by saying:If they want to know who Atwoli is, wait. 2027 is not far. I will train you. I will train you. I will teach you manners. They will know me. Very rude.”
