Beryl died on November 25 after a long battle with cancer, and is expected to be buried at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi. The news of his death was announced by their sister, Ruth Odingawho cried for him as his best friend and shared things that he will always remember.

During the memorial mass, Oburu was filled with emotion recounting how he lived with his sister and even became her guardian when he was young.
“It’s a heavy moment for me, losing my brother last month and now standing here mourning my sister. I was only about 10 years old when I carried her for the first time. She was born in 1953, I was in 1943. I was like her guardian. She was a warm and loving child,” he said.
He also revealed that Beryl was originally called Okumu, the name of their father’s friend, before it was changed to Achieng. “I love my sister very much.
When I left to study in Russia, I left him as a small child. When I came back I found him an adult.
Rest in peace my dear sister, I pray that God will keep you in a good place, and I hope he still remembers us. We have lost a sister and brother we grew up with as twins. I hope God still loves us,” he added.
Why was Beryl not present at Raila’s funeral?
During Raila’s funeral, Oburu mentioned all his relatives and explained that Beryl did not attend because she was ill.
He also explained that his greetings were going to be read by his youngest son, Tairai, who told of Beryl’s closeness with Raila.
Tairai was also seen with his cousin, Winnie Odingawhen they arrived at Lee Funeral Home to mourn.
In the trending photos, Winnie was seen hugging Tairai and her sister Chizi, comforting them gently, which touched the hearts of many on the internet.
