Murkomen said that the police, government offices, and political circles enable criminal gangs to operate with impunity.
He warned that the government would not protect anyone involved in such activities, stressing the urgent need for accountability.
During the interview with Citizen TV on Tuesday, December 2, the Minister referred to recent incidents where law enforcement officers were seen indiscriminately interacting with people with knives.

These disturbing images raised public concerns about the integrity of police operations and the safety of citizens during election periods.
“In some cases, police officers are part of the partners. They are affected. You saw over the weekend that there was a police officer also greeting while smiling and laughing. One of those people was carrying a sword and, you know, waving a sword. And the IG is in the process of making sure that those police officers are held accountable,” the Minister said.
The minister noted that the influence of gangs is not limited to the opposition, noting that some people who support the government also invest in gangs.
“We cannot lie that, you see, we cannot lie that there is also a problem among police officers or even government officials or even politicians, including those who are on the side of the government. This does not prevent you from being in the opposition. As I told you, there are people who even support the government, but invest in gangs,” he said.

Murkomen stressed the need for courage and decisive action from Kenya’s law enforcement leadership to tackle gangs in the country.
He said that the Inspector General of Police and the Director of Criminal Investigation must face these criminal networks head-on, regardless of political affiliation.
The minister said that the fight against gangs requires common sense, adding that his successor will also need to address the issue.
“Let me say this, because now I am in a privileged position, but for some time, someone else will come and do this job. Another government will come after some time. The thing is, we must face gangs and we must agree as citizens, not whether you are in the government or the opposition, that we cannot tolerate this issue of gangs. And we cannot protect them because of someone who supports the president or who opposes the president,” Murkomen said.
