He revealed that his son had called earlier to report his lost phone and asked him to change his line shortly before he received the alarming call.

“He told me that his phone was lost and asked me to change the line. Later, when I received a call, I was told that he had died, but I found out that the phone was not lost; he had been arrested by the young men who lied to him, telling him to come and take his phone. I heard that they put him in a car. The young men tried to follow the car, and they left,” he said.

His daughter, Davin Marucha, described the horrific discovery, recounting how her brother’s killers called to tell them of their brutal act.

Davin said they left late at night and true to the words of the killers, they found his brother’s remains hidden as instructed.

According to Rogers’ mother, her son’s body was soaked in alcohol, adding that he was also stabbed multiple times.

“He told me, “Go to the sewage and take your luggage, I left it there.” And I went. I found my brother there in the sewage. He had been stabbed so many times that you can’t even count. His whole body was soaked in alcohol,” Owendi added.

Why did the Nakuru gang kill Rogers?

It is believed that the killing is related to Marucha’s history, as he was previously a member of the dreaded Confirm Gang and was arrested in 2022.

After his release, Marucha moved to Kisii to start anew, but whenever he returned to Nakuru to visit his family, the gang reportedly searched for him, and punished him for leaving.

The grieving mother claimed that the gang rejected her decision to stop their activities and make an honest living.

“When they arrested him, they said he was their leader. He had already left the group. And you know how those groups are, once you become part of them, and if you leave, they don’t leave,” Owendi added.

Marucha’s sister narrated the time when the gang raided their house as soon as they heard that he had come to visit them from Kisii.

The gang also attacked the same night in the Flamingo Estate area again, stabbing 18-year-old Henry Ongae several times in the neck, indicating an increase in gang-related violence in the area.
