Ong’ondo was shot when his car stopped at a traffic light on Ngong Road, in what authorities said was a planned attack.
Boyd will compete in the next by-election, scheduled for November 27, against independent candidate Philip Aroko.
Initially, Boyd faced criticism from political opponents who questioned his ability to lead, partly due to his age and the fact that he had not yet built a ‘Simba’ (a Luo man’s first traditional home).

Was the Boyd family home raided?
In other news, Boyd criticized the police raid on his family home that left three Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI) officers injured.
The attack happened a few days after two people were killed during a tense campaign in the West Kamagak Region.
According to Boyd, about 10 police officers entered his late father’s residence to try to arrest five suspects related to the recent murder.
The suspects were hiding in the compound when a group of angry youths rioted, fighting with the officers and helping them escape after the success of some arrests.
Boyd criticized the manner in which the attack was carried out, claiming that officers failed to notify the family before entering the property.
