In an executive order issued on Monday, December 1, Wanga fired Peter Ogolla, who served as the County Chief Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Land, Physical Planning, Housing and Urban Development.
He cited the provisions of Section 35(a) of the County Government Act, without revealing the specific reason for his removal.
Did Wanga rob Magwanga of important roles?
The governor also relieved his deputy, Oyugi Magwanga, of the CECM duties he had in Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock Development.
Following the change, Wanga appointed Danish Onyango, CECM for Roads, Public Works, Transport and Infrastructure, to serve as acting CECM for Agriculture, a position previously held by the deputy.
In the same announcement, Joseph Mitito was appointed as the new CECM of Lands, replacing Ogolla.
Wanga praised him as a good professional with good leadership qualities.
“According to the law, I will submit his name and investigation documents to be approved by the County Assembly. These changes will come into effect immediately. The county secretary is responsible for ensuring that those affected are handed over in an easy way,” the order said.
He added that the decisions were motivated by the need to improve the provision of services to the people of the lakeside county.
Why is Gladys Wanga strengthening her inner circle?
This comes just two days after tensions rose within the Homa Bay administration, with Wanga signaling a firm stance on loyalty among his senior staff.

What caused the conflict between Wanga and Magwanga?
His comments followed a major controversy caused by Magwanga’s support for independent candidate Philip Aroko instead of ODM’s Boyd Were.
The move is reported to have disrupted ODM structures and fueled feelings of a major conflict.
Earlier, the governor reminded residents about the long road he took to get the seat, saying he will not tolerate people who benefit from government positions while opposing the same administration.
He hinted at strict discipline, noting that workers who delay work or engage in corruption risk being fired.
Wanga expressed confidence to defend her seat in 2027 and suggested that some of the criticism directed at her is due to her being a woman rather than her performance.
