Kiprono Chemitei: UDA Candidate Wins the Baringo Senatorial Seat by a landslide

The Baringo senatorial by-election held on November 27 ended with a solid victory for the candidate of UDAKiprono Chemitei Cheburet.

Chemitei got 55,246 votes, defeating Steve David Kipruto of the Republican Liberal Party who collected 13,037 votes. Chebon Benjamin got third with 2,863 votes.

Was Chemitei sure of winning the Baringo by-election?

On polling day, Chemitei expressed confidence about his victory, referring to the party’s previous election competition that gave him the UDA ticket.

“I am very sure, because we made our selection at the beginning, and it was more competitive than this but I was the one who emerged as the winner. I believe, and I know that in the end I will be declared the winner,” he said.

Chemitei added that the same voters who supported him in the party’s previous election were again expected to encourage his victory, having faith in his vision and the development agenda he intends to implement Baringo.

After his victory, the UDA publicly congratulated Chemitei, noting the importance of his victory as a symbol of the voice of the people.

“As UDA, we stand proudly with you as you begin a new chapter of service to the great citizens of Baringo. Your victory is a great proof of your leadership, integrity, and determination to fulfill your promises,” the party said in a social media post.

This victory positions Chemitei as a young leader with a strong mandate to develop development projects in Baringo County.county.

Did Ruto campaign for Chemitei Baringo?

TUKO.co.ke previously reported that the President William Ruto visited Baringo, where he inspected the Marigat–Mochongoi Road.

He urged residents to support Chemitei before the by-election. Ruto described Chemitei as a promising young leader, saying he was like a son to him.

The UDA party leader added that Chemitei had already passed the test during the party’s previous elections, proving his ability to lead.
