Their children, who have lived in Switzerland all their lives, have chosen to bury their parents in the country they have long called home.

How Mutaaga and his wife died

According to journalist Ritah Kaggwa, the decision was made after months of inconclusive investigations that have left the family scared and sad.

Mutaaga and his wife had lived for more than 30 years in Zurich before deciding to retire in the country Ugandahoping to enjoy a quiet day at the place where their life journey began.

But at the beginning of July, their dream of returning home peacefully was shattered when they were found dead in their residence in Lugonjo, Nakiwogo Cell, Entebbe Municipality.

According to Ugandan police, the couple was attacked on the night of July 6 by unknown assailants.

Why are the children of Mutaaga afraid to return home

Two casual laborers from their home were arrested to help with the investigation, but authorities have since admitted that the motive remains unclear despite the involvement of several intelligence agencies.

During their memorial ceremony held in June, their children, Isabel Najitta Mutaaga and Mark Ernest Kabenge Mutaaga, paid tribute to their parents online from abroad.

The children, saddened by the lack of response, reiterated their reluctance to travel to Uganda out of fear and have instead arranged for their parents’ bodies to be returned.

Sources close to the family say uncertainty about the killers’ motives and concerns about their safety played a major role in the decision.

Officers collected samples from the scene for forensic analysis and have interviewed neighbors, a housekeeper, and a farm boy who first raised the alarm.

“We strongly condemn this heinous crime and want to assure the public that we are fully committed to bringing those responsible to justice,” police said in the days following the murder.

As the media continue to follow up on the information, there have been widespread rumors that the deaths were the result of a family dispute.

Police have released a photo of the suspect

In a statement issued by the Uganda Police Force, photos of the person suspected of committing the two murders were released on social media.

Beside the picture there was a clip of her voice where she is heard calling Deborah to save her husband.

The suspect also complained about how the couple’s children were at school, unlike him who was at home suffering.

Since the remains of their parents will arrive in Zurich soon, Mutaaga’s children are faced with the painful task of burying their mother and father far from the country they returned to with high hopes.

For now, they continue to plead for justice, hoping one day the truth behind their parents’ final moments will finally come to light.
