On Thursday, November 20, the president delivered his annual State of the Nation Address in the National Assembly.
In his speech, the president highlighted the success of his administration Kenya First Alliance for the past year.
Which road will William Ruto pave?
The head of state shared with the parliamentarians the plans he has to change the country for the next ten years.
For example, Ruto revealed that his administration will speed up transport and infrastructure initiatives, such as paving 28,000 kilometers of roads and upgrading the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

“To accelerate our transport and logistics plan, the Ministry of Roads and Transport has already prepared a complete network of 2,500 dual carriageways and 28,000 kilometers of paved roads in the next 10 years. We will also participate in private and public partnerships to improve the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Mombasa and Lamu ports, and solve the challenges facing Kenya Airways by next year,” Ruto announced.
The President listed a number of roads that have been earmarked for tarmac and double-laning, saying they will help deal with the traffic disruptions that have plagued Kenyans in the past.
“This work is already underway. Next week, I will inaugurate the 170km long Rironi-Naivasha-Nakuru-Mau Summit two-lane road. On the same day, we will start the 58km Rironi-Maai Mahiu-Naivasha double-lane road. The blockage that cripples these roads every day—especially on weekends and holidays—will soon be history.
“Other roads earmarked for twinning include Muthaiga-Kiambu-Ndumberi; Machakos Junction-Mariakani, Mau Summit-Kericho-Kisumu; Kisumu-Busia; Mau Summit-Eldoret-Malaba; Athi River-Namanga; Karatina-Nanyuki-Isiolo; Makutano-Embu-Meru-Maua; Mtwapa-Malindi; Mombasa-Lunga Lunga, Kericho-Kisii-Migori-Isebania, Nakuru—Nyahururu—Karatina, Kisii—Oyugis—the Northern Bypass; Bomas—Karen—Ngong, Bomas Ongata Rongai—Kiserian; and Naivasha—Kikuyu, among many other important corridors across the country,” the president listed.

Why MPs sang ‘tutam’?
A section of MPs stood up and started chanting ‘tutam’, a common slogan for people who support Ruto’s bid for re-election in 2027.
The president was forced to stand while members of parliament sang his praises, while others, especially those who supported the opposition, remained seated.
However, the cheers stopped immediately when the head of state indicated that the said infrastructure will require KSh 5 trillion.
“Members of Parliament, estimates show that achieving these four priorities will require at least KSh 5 trillion. This is undoubtedly a large amount. Some may see it as unrealistic, even bold, for a country like ours,” Ruto revealed.
Was Julius Kamau arrested in parliament?
At the same time, there was noise outside the Parliament shortly before the president arrived.
Human rights activist Julius Kamau was arrested after trying to do so protest outside the Parliament.
His arrest came minutes later, drawing attention from the crowd gathered along Parliament Street as security was beefed up for the national event.
Kamau put himself in his position shortly before the arrival of the president, but the officers guarding the area quickly moved in and arrested him.
The experienced activist was escorted from the scene and kept in custody at the Parliament Police Station.
