Oburu Defends Inclusive Government, Rejects Attempts to Divide ODM Before 2027: “It Will Not Happen”

Migori – Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga has taken a firm stance on the position of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in the wider government.

Speaking in Migori County on Tuesday, November 18, Oburu defended the Orange Party’s decision to continue working with President William Ruto’s administration. Kenya First Alliance.

What is the ODM party’s position on the general government?

The Siaya senator said his late brother, Raila Odingadid not enter into a broad scheme of personal gain.

The ODM party leader said the wishes of the former prime minister were for his followers to enjoy the fruits of the government, including jobs and development projects.

“They will tell you that where we are, we are full. But as it is now, we were left by our brother Raila Odinga in the broad government. This broad plan of the government is not intended for personal gain. Raila did not make the plan for personal gain. The plan was made to benefit ODM members,” Oburu said.

Ahead of the 2027 General Election, Oburu revealed that the party will enter into organized negotiations to ensure it gets a majority of the government.

Will the ODM party negotiate with other political parties in 2027?

He called on ODM members to register as voters, saying that the party’s numerical strength would guide its negotiations with other political players.

“And so, as we move forward, we will negotiate seriously and ensure that our people get their share of the national cake. Politics is about numbers. When you negotiate with anyone, they negotiate with you seriously if you have good numbers. But if there are only a few of you, nobody will care what you get,” he said.

On the emerging cracks in the Orange Party, Oburu dismissed reports that the party will disintegrate before the 2027 elections.

The veteran politician said he will not allow the movement to break under his watch as the leader of the party.

“We will not be ignored anymore. Those who want to think or want to break ODM in their fertile imaginations, I tell you that those are very fertile imaginations. It will never happen in my hands. We will not allow ODM to split,” he said.

Why do ODM members want Oburu Oginga to resign?

At the same time, a group of ODM party members submitted a request asking Oburu to resign from all leadership positions of the party.

The group accused him of ignoring the party’s constitution, alienating long-serving members, and undermining internal democracy.

The petition, led by Rachael Tabitha, made several allegations of violation of due process, including violation of Article 6.2.2(b) of the ODM Constitution.
