Bishop Michael Wanderi has lashed out at Pastor Victor Kanyari after his speech at the funeral of gospel singer Betty Bayo.

Mourners gathered in Ndumberi, Kiambu County, on Thursday, November 20 to bid farewell to the late singer, whose funeral was held at his Mugumo Estate home.
Pastor Kanyari, who fathered two children with Betty Bayo, was invited to offer condolences to his ex-wife.
When he was called to the platform, Kanyari started by admitting that speaking in English was not his ability.
He then reflected on their first meeting, their early days of dating, and how quickly they moved in together, just months before welcoming their first child.
“How do I begin to sing about Betty? Thirteen years ago, in the hustle and bustle of Nairobi, fate brought our paths together. I met this beautiful, small and smiling girl whose gentleness could calm the most hectic activities of the day. We bonded immediately, and after a few weeks, we couldn’t imagine living apart,” Kanyari said.
He spoke happily about their relationship and recounted the happy moments and challenges as they went through life together.
Kanyari paused several times, jokingly mentioning his struggle to read English, which made the mourners laugh.

He reflected on their journey together.
“You never denied your father, nor did you poison them in their hearts, instead you surrounded them with love. I used to joke when the children came saying ‘I am what I am’ (I am what I am), but it was a joke. In my heart I respected your decision to continue with your life,” he said.
Bishop Wanderi casts a shadow on Pastor Kanayari
While his speech was light and full of humor, Bishop Wanderi found it inappropriate. The bishop who was leading the service expressed his disappointment.
“Little girl, Sky, loves to play, but have you seen her play today? What would make you laugh till your teeth show when the children cry?” the bishop said, speaking of Kanyari’s character.
He continued: “What makes you behave like this? This is the time to laugh, as if we are celebrating Betty’s death? Let’s stop mixing emotions like this. If we are mourning, let us mourn. We can laugh from tomorrow.”

Earlier, Pastor Kanyari showed the bond he shared with the mother of his children. The preacher said that the gospel singer, at one time, helped him when he gave him KSh 700,000 when he was released.
She had taken their children to the dentist, and Sky, the eldest, was asking her father for extra money.
Sky revealed that she was getting decorations and needed KSh 35,000 from her father as an extra.
The preacher did not give the context of the screenshot, but Kenyans questioned why he posted it.
