Thiaw watched his team win Harambee Stars 8-0 in Antalya, Turkey, in their second game of the month.
Teranga Lions lost against Brazil on Friday but bounced back in impressive fashion to record one of the biggest wins in their history.
After a poor performance against Brazil, Sadio Mane returned to his best form, scoring three times with two goals Nicolas Jackson and Malick Diouf’s first goal for the national team helping them lead 6-0 within 35 minutes.
Ibrahim Mbaye and Cherif Ndiaye got into the fun in the second half and gave Senegal the perfect answer.
Senegal’s coach sends a message to Kenya
Thiaw was impressed with his team’s performance, praising their mindset after losing to Brazil a few days ago. He called Kenya a ‘tough team’ despite the one-sided result.
“I wanted to congratulate my players because they really followed the instructions. They played a serious game, respecting our game plan. I thought it was very important, because we were coming off a defeat and, facing us, we knew we were fighting a tough team. When you have competitive players who don’t like to lose and who can bounce back after a defeat, it’s a big advantage,” said through Wiwi Sport.
The 44-year-old also played down Senegal’s big win, saying they had different goals for the game.
“You just told me that we broke the record, but we just wanted to win this match and play hard. Our goal was to play a good game, and we did it. Congratulations to the players.”

The Kenya match was one of the games that Senegal are using to prepare for the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. Thiaw tried a new system against Kenya, testing the back three of Kalidou Koulibaly, Abdoulaye Seck and Mamadou Sarr.
“We cannot enter the tournament with only one system. Because sometimes, depending on the context of the match, it can change. Later, when we have very dedicated and intelligent players… we only worked once,” he said.
