Betty breathed her last surrounded by loved ones, and her death completed the Gospel ministry that had touched so many lives.
On Sunday, November 16, hundreds gathered at CFF Church to celebrate Betty’s life. Family and friends took to the podium to pay golden tributes, honoring the late singer.
How Betty Bayo’s mother respected her
One of the most emotional moments came from Betty’s mother, Joyce Mbugua, who shared a video message recorded from the US.
Joyce had been living abroad, having moved away before, and Betty was even planning to join him soon before his sudden death.
In her message, Joyce honored Betty as a strong believer from childhood, recalling their close relationship even as Betty grew into adulthood.
He explained Betty’s journey from studying journalism to following Gospel music in 2009 and how he continued to help her academically.
“No mother should go through this. I say what you could say: it is God’s will. When you were blessed, you taught me to rest while you took care of me, helping me in every way. You brought me from the village to Runda Estate, where I lived with you until I asked to come home. Although you hesitated, we finally agreed. You built me a modern house to ensure I live well, and later you suggested I move to the United States, where I am now. Your life was short, but you lived more than I could have imagined. For goodbye, my dear Betty, you will always be in my heart.”

“You, Sky and Dani, I know you may not be able to fill the gap your mother left in my heart, but when I see you, I remember her. The bond and love we share will carry me through this difficult time. Please remember that your grandmother loves you more than words can describe.”
This emotional tribute touched those present and people on social media deeply, showing the close relationship between Betty and her mother and the support she gave her.

Did Betty Bayo think Kenyans hated her?
During the memorial service, Betty’s close friend, Shiru of GP, claimed that Betty died knowing that people hated her.
According to Shiru, the singer had endured severe abuse and taunts on social media, which hurt him deeply and affected him psychologically.
Shiru added that those fears were the reason why Betty chose to keep her illness a secret, even as her time was running out.
