The win was the culmination of a strong tournament for South Africa, who started by thrashing Ghana 48-0 in the quarterfinals and followed up with a 29-0 semifinal win over Madagascar.
On the other side, Kenya’s journey to the final saw them overcoming Zimbabwe 33-12 in the quarterfinals and edging Uganda 17-10 in a hard-fought semifinal match.
The final standings saw South Africa on top, with Kenya earning the silver medal. Uganda secured bronze after beating Madagascar 38-12.
Other notable results from the tournament included Madagascar’s 17-7 victory over Zambia, Tunisia narrowly edging Zambia 19-14 for fifth place, and Zimbabwe clinching seventh place by defeating Ghana 19-12.
