Speaking during ODM’s 20th anniversary celebrations in Mombasa on Friday, November 14, Winnie noted that some members were deliberately engaging in divisive politics for their own gain, causing confusion among many members.

“I have heard talk of division within the ODM party. Father used to call that ‘frog noise’, the noise of a frog that cannot stop a cow from drinking water,” he said.

What does Winnie Odinga want from ODM?

He emphasized that despite the death of his longtime leader, Raila OdingaODM must continue to stand strong.

Winnie, who is Raila’s youngest child, warned that the party will not be quietly handed over to the opposition. According to him, ODM will remain true to its identity and its mission to fight for social rights at the cost of following the political status quo.

“When you have a big tragedy, people get confused. I want to let people know that ODM is strong, we are building, and we are not here to play.

I have heard that there are those who walk with us during the day and then try to sell our party at night. ODM was not born in the bedroom, so its future will not be discussed like a river talk,” Winnie said.

He encouraged the youth within the party to rise up and shape its future direction.

Winnie reaffirmed ODM’s commitment to the prosperity of the country, guided by the vision of its founders.

“ODM was born in protest, perseverance. And there are people who gave sweat and blood for the people of Kenya. ODM is a party of the people, and because the youth of ODM have faith, we will continue to work for the people.”

The ODM party is celebrating its 20th year as it undergoes transition following the death of Raila, its long-time leader.

He died on October 15 while undergoing treatment in India.

His elder brother and Siaya senator Oburu Oginga was appointed as interim leader until he was confirmed at the National Leadership Council (NGC) meeting on November 13.

At the same time, the party is divided on whether or not it will participate in the 2027 presidential vote or enter a coalition.

One group believes that ODM still has the strength to fight a fierce battle, while another says that Raila is the only leader with national appeal.

Recently, Raila’s long-serving communications assistant Dennis Onyango said that the party will be wasting time strategizing for the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking in Nyatike, Migori County, on November 8, he dismissed the idea that ODM could independently mount a credible presidential campaign, calling such beliefs false.

Is ODM ready to nominate a presidential candidate?

Expressing his views in Luo, Onyango stressed that Raila is the only person in ODM with the ability and national strength to lead the presidential election, and with his departure, the party must face a new reality.

He questioned the possibility of any current ODM member succeeding where Raila had previously failed, despite his immense influence and influence.

Onyango said that the party’s best position lies in creating strategic alliances with more electable leaders.

Considering the current political trends, he suggested that ODM should consider teaming up with President William Ruto or the former deputy president Rigathi Gachaguaalthough he acknowledged that Gachagua’s past enmity against Raila could affect such cooperation.

He further noted that the cooperation of ODM and Gachagua would be difficult, especially due to the existing system within the Opposition, whose leaders have been reported to get parts of the government if they get power.
