According to a Citizen TV report, John Agwacha, aged 72, is said to have buried his wife’s body at the door of their house after her death.

Agwacha, who had confessed to the crime, changed his position, saying that he did not know where his wife was.

Kisii county police officers collaborated with investigators from the Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to exhume the body of the deceased.

“We started excavating the place where the woman was buried. It is true that, as we speak, we have managed to unearth the body of the woman who had been reported missing.

The couple’s children said their mother went missing in September, but became more concerned when she failed to collect rent from her tenants.

“It seems that he was buried a long time ago. After it rained, no one could know that someone was buried there. I asked the old man to accompany us to report the incident,” Nyambati Omari, son of the deceased, said.

During his interview with the police, Agwacha confessed to killing his wife by beating her with a blunt object before digging a grave and placing her body inside.

Residents expressed concern about the manner in which the murder and attempted cover-up were carried out, stressing that the suspect may have accomplices.

“This man was not alone. He was with many people. One cannot dig a grave and bury someone alone. There must have been other people,” one female resident said.

The body of the deceased was taken to the Kisii County Referral Hospital, while the prosecution was given permission to detain Agwacha for 30 days.
