Newspapers on Monday: Gachagua Throws a Missile at Uhuru, Declares Himself the King of Mount Kenya

On Monday, November 10, national newspapers reported extensively on the statements of the President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni, regarding the kidnapping of two Kenyan activists.

The newspapers also reported on the struggle for influence in Mount Kenya between former President Uhuru Kenyatta and Rigathi Gachagua.

1. Daily Nation

This newspaper reported on President Yoweri Museveni’s remarks in relation to the kidnapping of two Kenyan activistswho had been missing for 38 days.

Speaking on UBC TV, Museveni admitted that Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo were arrested by Ugandan intelligence units.

After a few hours of their release, Museveni revealed that the two were collaborating with his main rival, Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, as professional rioters.

“Here in Uganda, we have our own groups that we follow; we have very good intelligence. For example, we arrested two Kenyans; I don’t remember their names. They were working with the Kyagulanyi group; they are experts in chaos,” said Museveni.

The Ugandan president revealed that Njagi and Oyoo were taken and kept in a freezer for several days before Kenyan leaders intervened.

According to Museveni, the Kenyan leaders asked not to be detained but to be given a trial in court.

2. Nation Today

The Kiswahili newspaper reported on the action of the former Vice President, Rigathi Gachagua, to declare himself the lion of Mount Kenya.

Speaking on Sunday, November 9, Gachagua said he is the one who should give political direction to the area before the 2027 General Election.

Gachagua announced that the region should unite with his party Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).

His statement happened a few days after the former President Uhuru Kenyatta asking Jubilee Party supporters to sit Gachagua in their meetings.

But in an indirect attack on Uhuru, Gachagua announced that the only party being taken seriously in Mount Kenya is the DCP, claiming that all other political parties are supported by the President William Ruto.

The party is the DCP and I ask you to give me the responsibility of leading them to choose a team of honest leaders to protect our interests,” said Gachagua in the PCEA Kayole church.

4. The Standard

Authority of Tanzania have arrested some of the main opposition leaders related to the unrest related to the elections in various cities.

The police have also launched a search for opposition leaders, including senior officials of the main opposition party, Chama Cha Democrasia na Maendeleo (Chadema).

On Saturday, November 8, the Assistant General Secretary of Chadema, Amani Golugwa, was arrested and is facing charges including rape.

The police have also listed the Secretary General John Mnyika and the spokesperson of the party, Brenda Rupia, among those who were asked to be brought for interview in relation to the chaos that hit big cities including Dar es Salaam, Arusha, Mwanza, Mbeya, Shinyanga, Geita, Songwe, Ruvuma, Mara, Dodoma, Kilimanjaro and Iringa.
