Speaking on UBC TV, Museveni admitted that Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo were arrested by Ugandan intelligence units.

Why were Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo kidnapped?

Njagi and Oyoo were released on the night of Friday, November 7, and handed over to Kenyan authorities at the border kiss38 days after the kidnapping.

Hours after his release, Museveni revealed that the two were collaborating with his main rival, Robert Kyagulani, known as Bobi Wine, as riot experts.

“Here in Uganda, we have our groups, which we monitor; we have a very good intelligence. For example, we arrested two Kenyans; I do not remember their names. They were collaborating with the Kyagulanyi group; they are experts in violence,” Museveni said.

Where were Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo detained?

The Ugandan president revealed that Njagi and Oyoo were arrested and kept in a freezer for several days before Kenyan leaders intervened.

According to Museveni, the Kenyan leaders asked not to be arrested but to be investigated and charged in court.

“Well, our intelligence officers detained them, and they were in the fridge for several days. Now, some Kenyan leaders called me and said I should put them in jail or send them back to their homes,” said the president of Uganda.

Bobi Wine’s opinion

Responding to Museveni’s acknowledgment message, Bobi Wine strongly criticized the action of the Ugandan government.

The Ugandan opposition leader criticized Museveni for admitting to the seizure and incommunicado detention of his two Kenyan friends.

“In this video, dictator Museveni confirms that our Kenyan brothers Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo were put under conditions and held for 38 days because of their collaboration with us. He claims they faced all the torture because they are ‘specialists in violence’. Shame. If they did anything wrong, why were they not brought to court with official charges? Fortunately, these brothers confirmed that they were held together with many Ugandans and people from other countries,” said Bobi Wine.

Did Uhuru help the release of the activists?

Elsewhere, human rights organizations explained that the freedom of the two is due to the intervention of the former President Uhuru Kenyattawith the Kenyan government.

Irungu Houghton of Amnesty International said that Uhuru was involved in this matter when it reached a critical stage.

He suggested that through his diplomatic status, the former president promoted civil society efforts to secure the release of the two after actively intervening in the negotiations.
