The governor recently accompanied a Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka to Opoda Farm, the home of the late former prime minister Raila Odinga, to console the family and pay their last respects.
What happened between Ida and Wavinya?
During the visit, the cameras recorded an embarrassing incident between the Vinyas and Ida Odinga.
In a clip that went viral, Wavinya went to Ida to give her a happy hug, but Ida seemed distracted, turning away mid-hug and appearing to give orders to those she was talking to instead of enjoying the hug.

Ida was then seen gently removing Wavinya’s hand from her waist, leaving the county boss visibly embarrassed.
However, it is important to note that the incident did not appear to be intentional as the two have no known differences.
What did Wavinya say about Ida Odinga’s hug?
Wavinya eventually addressed the incident in a strong social media post that seemed to mix gratitude with a little humor:
“You Kenyans never cease to amaze me! I had no idea that I could attract so much attention and support from Kenyans.”
He continued:
“Your constant engagement, participation, and constructive criticism have played a major role in shaping who I am today. From ‘Yaliyo ndwele sipite’ to ‘Wavinya kuhug cha Vinya’… Because of you, our work in change management and community-driven development is now recognized across Africa.”
His words, referring to his previous time spread from years ago, caused another wave of reactions from netizens.
What did Wavinya tell his critics?
In what appeared to be a sarcastic response to the ongoing debate, Wavinya later shared a photo of him hugging the little girl, writing:
“What does a hug do?”
He followed it with another Kiswahili proverb that seemed to carry a message for his critics:
“Loss of mica the joy of the fisherman.”
Wavinya also shared unseen footage from his visit to Opoda Farm showing him presenting a gift to Ida, suggesting that the clip only recorded part of their interaction.

What happened between Wavinya and Sammy Kioko?
In another recent incident that put Wavinya in the spotlight, former Churchill Show comedian Sammy Kioko recently camped outside his office, demanding payment for a county tender he claimed to have awarded.

However, the county’s procurement department acknowledged the existence of the relevant tender but clarified that Kioko was not listed among its registered shareholders.
