Grace Mwende, a mother of two, said that she fell in love with the man when she was only 19 years old, and since then, she became the breadwinner in the relationship.
In an interview with the chief producer of TUKO.co.ke Mercy Njeri, Grace said that during their courtship, when they were in a long distance relationship, she used to send him fares so that he could visit her.
“I had found a job in Isiolo, and so whenever he came to visit me, I sent him the fare, and when he was leaving, I paid for his return transport. This happened until I became pregnant with our first born,” she said.
Grace Mwende to finance her husband’s fake business ideas
Grace said her son, when he was one year old, visited the man’s sister in Nairobi, and while he was there he called her and asked her to move together and start married life.
When they moved in together, she was in charge of all the household bills, including food and rent, because her husband preferred to stay home all day while she went to work.
“When we moved in as a couple, I started a grocery business, which took a very good position. But my husband was only working at home. So I saved up to KSh 17,000 and gave it to him, suggesting that he start a business. However, he asked me to save more so that he could start a smart business,” she said.
Then he increased the savings to KSh 47,000 and handed it over to him. His purpose was to see her busy, as she was always idle and alone in the house.
However, two months later, the business collapsed. But until today, he did not know if the business was established or if it was all a hoax.

Sometime later, he gave her KSh 50,000, after he said he wanted to start a wine shop. ‘Business’ fell through as well, and he returned to himself empty-handed.
In 2021, the man told Grace about a business that offered profits based on how much one would invest.
“I gave him KSh 300,000, then months later, he admitted that it was a fraud and that all the money I gave him was lost,” he said.
All that time Grace believed that her husband loved her and that one day things would be alright.
Grace built a house for her husband
As if all the money he invested in her was not enough, he decided to build her a house in his village house in Meru.
“I visited him at his home in the village during the funeral, and I found out that he didn’t have a house. When we returned, I decided to use KSh 750,000 that I had saved for the project. I gave him my ATM card, and he returned it with a house of only 9 bob,” he added.
When she lacked money and resources to support her life, her marriage began to fall apart, shortly after the man started cheating.
“One day a woman called me and told me she was having an affair with my husband, I confronted her later, and after many issues in our home, she left and returned to her mother’s village,” she said bitterly and added that she is still struggling to pay the loan she took to support her husband.
With the man’s departure from the marriage, Grace is also the sole breadwinner of their two children. He advises women in relationships and marriages not to help their important people blindly, and without reciprocating.
