How did Kalonzo get to Raila’s house?

Kalonzo’s arrival attracted hundreds of residents who gathered at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, Odinga’s family home, to witness the emotional event.

A few weeks after Raila’s burial, Kalonzo’s visit was one of the biggest signs of respect for the ODM leader, whose death shocked Kenya’s political establishment.

The former vice president, who was Raila’s running mate in the 2013 and 2017 presidential elections, led a delegation of Wiper Party officials and political allies to convey their condolences to Mama Ida Odinga and Odinga’s extended family.

The visit, although tragic, carried great political symbolism as it united two political traditions that have shaped opposition politics in Kenya for more than a decade.

During the visit, Kalonzo presented Mama Ida Odinga with a bull, a traditional symbol of respect and condolence.

The animals were received amid songs and chants, symbolizing the relationship between the Odinga and Musyoka families.

During a press conference in Kisumu on Thursday, November 6, Kalonzo confirmed that he will travel to Opoda Farm in Bondo to mourn with Mama Ida Odinga and pay his last respects to the late opposition leader.

Surrounded by various politicians, he said his visit will also represent a broad coalition of the United Opposition.

“I spoke to Orengo. They all support Mama Ida and the family. We will also be sending animals to the family as a way of mourning,” Kalonzo said.

He hinted that Gachagua, the leader of the Democratic Party for the People (DCP), might visit Raila’s grave separately.

Kalonzo reiterated that the Opposition has remained intact despite the political changes, saying he had spoken to Gachagua the previous night.

He said the opposition, which includes Martha Karua, Eugene Malwaand Trans Nzoia governor George Natembeya, continue to work together to protect Raila’s political legacy.
