He said Wanga’s work in the county and the party showed how strong women’s leadership can be when given a chance and supported.
“The chairman of my ODM party is a strong woman who has led us. We will stand with her no matter what happens. Gladys Wanga has shown ODM that women’s leadership can rise higher than many think,” Junet said.
He encouraged residents to continue to support women leaders, saying that the county has already embraced that trend.
“Gladys Wanga has shown that a woman can rule, a woman can lead and can move the county, country or constituency forward. Here in Homa Bay, we thank you for electing women to lead,” he said.
Junet listed several women elected in the area, including Kabondo Member of Parliament Kasipul Eve Obara and Rangwe Member of Parliament Lilian Gogo, saying their victory shows the county’s confidence in women.
Can a government be formed in Kenya without ODM?
He moved to national politics where he defended the strength of ODM, insisting that the party remains at the center of Kenyan politics.
He said ODM commands support from the Kilifi coast to the northern counties of Turkana and Wajir.
“No one should think that ODM is one of the small rural parties that come together and claim that they want to form a government. No government in Kenya can be formed without ODM being a part of it,” he said.
Junet reminded the meeting that the late Raila Odinga left behind a strong party structure built for future political battles.
He warned those who try to label ODM as a regional party, saying they are working against the future of the party.
He also said that Raila placed ODM within the wider government of the President William Ruto for peace and development, and the party will remain there until 2027.
“ODM will remain in this broad government until 2027, and that is the position of the party. We cannot gamble with the lives of our people. Raila wanted his party to be in government so that the people of Kenya can have peace, development and a better life,” Junet said.
He added that ODM will be part of the next government after the 2027 elections, either by forming or joining its structure.
Junet also brushed aside critics who claim Raila’s brother Oburu Oginga, who now leads ODM at the age of 82, is too old to serve.

He compared him to other African leaders who were elected at an advanced age.
“In Malawi they elected an 85-year-old president, in Ivory Coast they elected an 83-year-old president, and Cameroon recently elected a 92-year-old president. Oburu is very young compared to them,” he said.
