Terry Wanjiru Kariuki, widow of the late politician and activist JM Kariuki, has passed away in her late 80s.

The family confirmed that he died on October 30, 2025, while receiving treatment at a hospital in Nairobi.
In their touching statement, Kariuki’s family described Wanjiru as “more than the wife of a national hero; she was a light in her own right.”
They remembered her as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend, who lived with quiet strength and unwavering compassion.
“Through years of joy and pain, he stood firm, uniting his family and community with unceasing love,” read the statement.
The family also reflected on her role in preserving her late husband’s legacy, saying she reflected a spirit of patience and kindness.
When is the funeral of JM Kariuki’s wife? Nyandarua Governor, Kiarie Badilisha, joined the mourners, praising Wanjiru for his commitment to the welfare of the community.
“He was an example of love, compassion and tolerance,” he said.
The governor also emphasized his contribution to the JM Kariuki Memorial Hospital in Ol’Kalou, calling his contribution a lasting legacy for the people of Nyandarua.
“His willingness to help improve the hospital will remain a lasting legacy of his work and that of his Nyandarua family. On behalf of myself and the people of Nyandarua, I send my sincere condolences to Terry Kariuki’s family,” Change added.
A memorial service will be held at the family residence in Kilimani on Friday, November 7, at 9pm, followed by a funeral at JM Kariuki’s family farm in Gilgil on Tuesday, November 11.
Who was JM Kariuki?
JM Kariuki was a prominent politician in the history of the country and a former Member of Parliament for Nyandarua North.
He was also a deputy minister in the government of the late first president Mzee Jomo Kenyatta between 1974 and 1975. He died on March 1, 1975, and his body was later found in the Ngong Forest by a herdsman.
What caused the death of Dick Cheney?
