On Wednesday, October 15, Raila got up for his morning walk, and after five rounds, he collapsed and was rushed to a nearby hospital.

The doctor who treated him, Dr. Fons, also revealed that they tried everything to revive him and calm him down, but he did not recover.

What was Raila Odinga’s last meal?

Ruth, in an interview on Mayienga Radio, revealed that she cooked a nice lunch for Raila, before she died the next day.

“He had only gone for a check-up and a second opinion for his treatment. He didn’t even stay in the hospital. You know, Jakom wasn’t young either, so he had other problems that were affecting him. He was discharged, and he went to a hotel, where people get massages. He wanted to rest, and we had also bought our tickets to Dubai before we went back to Kenya,” he said.

According to him, Raila questioned how he was able to carry fish during the flight and asked him if there was any left for him to eat later.

“I cooked fish for him, which he ate the day before he died. He even asked me where I got it. India has fish from the sea, but I had carried fish from home. I also carried traditional vegetables. He asked me how I carry it, and I told him that I know how I travel. He ate well, including his daughter Winnie and Maurice Ogeta. Then he asked me if the fish was finished, and if he could get some the next day, and I told him I would do well like me,” he added.

He further narrated that Raila went to eat chapati and green gram served at the center during dinner before going to bed.

Ruth also added that Raila did not suffer in his death and recalled how their father, Jaramogi Oginga, also died a quick and painless death.

“If it had been known earlier that he doesn’t listen well, he would be given an easy job and leave politics, maybe he would even push it to 100. Now he has left us, there is no taste to stay in Kenya.”
