The gang escaped with two guns and hundreds of rounds of ammunition in what is described as one of the biggest security breaches.
The incident, which happened early Wednesday, October 29, has prompted a multi-agency manhunt as detectives race against time to recover the stolen weapons and determine how the thieves gained access to the secured police station.

What happened during the raid on Maguni Police Station?
According to the Central Regional Police Commander Samuel Ndanyi, the theft was discovered shortly after 4 am when officers on duty at night saw signs of tampering at the door of the armory.
Inside, a metal safe had been opened and two guns, along with several magazines and live ammunition, were missing.
“It is true that an incident occurred yesterday where our armory inside the Maguguni Police Station was broken into and resulted in the loss of firearms, two rifles, one AK-47 and one G3. Until now, since yesterday, the investigation is at the highest level, and we currently have 72 people in custody. We have not yet resolved so that we can connect, because we have done a lot in terms of investigation,” An insider confirmed.
A detailed police report, filed under OB number 02/29/10/2025, revealed that the robbery was first noticed by an officer who was out on patrol after hearing dogs barking near the perimeter of the patrol station.
When he returned to the office to report, the officer found that one of the metal sheets of the wall of the armory had been removed, and the lock that closed the door had been broken.
“When he went inside, he found the gun case opened and found that the following were missing: one AK-47 rifle with two magazines filled with 30 rounds each, one G3 rifle with one magazine filled with 20 rounds, two empty magazines, and 96 rounds,” the report said.
Who has been arrested for the theft that happened at the Kiambu Police Station?
The discovery prompted an immediate alert to senior officials, who rushed to the scene and confirmed the breach.
Investigation teams from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) have been sent to look for fingerprints and other forensic evidence that could help catch the culprits.
The stolen AK-47 rifle had 60 rounds, while the G3 rifle had 20 rounds.
As of Thursday, October 30, police had arrested a corporal who was manning the station and arrested 72 other people from the surrounding community for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.

Investigators are working to determine whether the theft involved an insider or was carried out by outsiders who abused night patrols.
Ndanyi said the ongoing operation aims to identify suspects, recover stolen weapons, and plug any security gaps within police stations.
He also urged the public to remain vigilant and share any information that may help the search.
“We believe that the gun is in the hands of civilians outside, and I also want to take this opportunity to appeal to the public that, if you have any information that will lead us to find those weapons,” he insisted.
