SHA Expands Primary Health Care Package to Boost Access for All Kenyans

The Social Health Authority (SHA) has announced a new and expanded Primary Health Care (PHC) benefits package aimed at improving access to quality medical services for all Kenyans.

In an update shared on X (formerly Twitter) on October 27, 2025, the SHA detailed five key health service packages now available at Level 2, 3, and selected Level 4 health facilities, including health centres, sub-county hospitals, and some county hospitals. The rollout comes as Kenya’s healthcare system faces increasing pressure to expand affordable coverage and strengthen community health delivery.

“The five packages include outpatient visits for everyday illnesses such as malaria, coughs, colds, diarrhoea, or wounds, ensuring basic care is accessible close to home,” the statement read.

The comprehensive PHC package covers:

  • Outpatient visits for common ailments like malaria, coughs, diarrhoea, and wounds.

  • Chronic disease management for conditions such as diabetes, asthma, high blood pressure, and sickle cell.

  • Doctor consultations and prescribed medicines for prompt medical care.

  • Laboratory tests and imaging including blood tests, urine tests, and X-rays for timely diagnosis.

  • Eye care services such as health education, testing, and eyeglasses for children under 18.

Kenyans can access these services or get more information by calling toll-free number 147 or visiting the official SHA website at www.sha.go.ke.
