Nyando state MP Jared Okello has welcomed the President William Ruto run for the presidency in the 2027 General Election under the ticket of the Orange Democratic Movement party.

The MP praised the party as if trying to explain why ODM is the best party for a politician to run for.
Can Ruto run for president under the ODM ticket?
Speaking to Citizen TV, Okello said that Ruto can run again under the ODM party ticket if he wants to.
“The President is welcome to run in ODM. One person joining a political party is a welcome idea. If President Ruto wants to run through ODM, we welcome him,” Okello said.

He explained that the ODM party has 1.4 million officials from the grassroots to the national level.
Okello further said that despite having many followers, the party boasts of seven million members across the country.
However, the mocking politician quoted ODM party leader Oburu Oginga’s remarks when he said that other politicians would like to run for the presidency under the Orange party ticket.
“So he will have to compete with internal competition. If he wins, fine, and if he doesn’t win and he joins our party, then he will have to support whoever wins against him,” he said.
These words come at a time when there have been questions about whether ODM will support Ruto or defend his presidential candidate in the 2027 election.
Will ODM defend the presidential candidate?
On Monday, October 27, Oburu, who has taken over the leadership of ODM for a while, hinted that the party may still field a presidential candidate to face Ruto.
He dismissed claims that ODM would accept second place, insisting that the party was founded to always seek power and not to be a supporter of others.
“You cannot start a party to be a deputy. That is why we will not develop a party so that we can be someone’s deputy. We believe in going to the race to win,” he said.
Who can run for the presidency in ODM?
A section of ODM MPs said that they do not believe that the party has the ability to represent the presidential candidate after the death of the former prime minister.

Led by Alego Usonga Member of Parliament, Sam Tandi, the MPs claimed that the late Raila had never supported anyone, so the party had no choice but to support Ruto.
He went on to warn ODM members who are against the government to leave the party, saying there are more capable leaders to take their place.
