The MP said that, for him, the simple words of ‘I love you and I am committed to you’ were enough for him.

“I rarely comment on people’s personal lives, but I hope you see why I refused a dowry for myself. When I love a man, a simple ‘I love you and I am committed to you’ is enough. Exchanging vows in public shows commitment to stay together,” he said.

Millie said that she could not compare her worth to a cow and that if she and her husband separated, no cow would be seen walking from her house.

“But comparing my value to cows is a no no for me. I respect those who choose that path though. It is not a matter for me. Should I leave Mabona or leave me, no cow, with or without bloggers, will be seen walking to or from wherever I am related to,” he added.

Social media users are talking about Millie’s revelation

Here’s what they said:

Okumu Ochino Steven:

“Cows were not exchanged for girls. It was a sign and insurance for the bride’s family that the house where their daughter was getting married was abundant and their girl would not suffer. It meant enough milk and grain. If a family could raise such good cows, it is said that they were good and responsible people. The cows had to be clean without any injury or disease. It was in those days of bartering. Unfortunately this thing has been sold. Good faith in it cannot be killed. changed to cattle.”

George Kasowa Subanese:

“Sir, your value is not equal to a cow. In the past, among the heretics and other African communities, having a cow and large parcels of land was a great measure of wealth. A cow as a form of dowry payment is not done in exchange for a woman but to show the willingness to give up your cow then there was enough evidence.”
