Jane Atila: Missing UoN Student Found Brutally Murdered, Body Rotting in the Forest

Three weeks after her mysterious disappearance, the decomposed body of 20-year-old University of Nairobi student, Jane Atila Quedeya, was found in a bush in Kefri Muguga Forest in Kikuyu.

The heartbreaking discovery ended days of pain for his family, who had held out hope that he would be found alive.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI), detectives arrested Nicholas Mutua Mutia, 34, believed to be Jane’s estranged boyfriend.

Investigation revealed that Atila was last seen with his company shortly before his disappearance.

The suspect was brought before the Kikuyu Court on October 25, where detectives were given 21 days to detain him while investigations continue.

How was Jane Atila’s body found?

“The decomposed body of Atila, whose missing report was registered at Kikuyu Police Station on October 13, was found dumped in a bush in Kefri Muguga Forest,” DCI it said.

Forensic fingerprint analysis carried out in collaboration with the National Registry Office positively identified the body. DCI officials said the remains were found on October 17, ten days after they were last seen.

The discovery came a few days after TUKO.co.ke reported that Jane’s family had received ransom calls from unknown people demanding to know her whereabouts.

Jane’s guardian, Patrick Mwangale, said the family was very saddened by the condition in which the body was found.

Detectives gather more evidence about Atila’s case

Police believe the suspect could have persuaded the student before killing him and dumping his body in the forest.

A plea hearing is expected on November 13, as detectives continue to gather evidence to build a murder case.

The tragedy has left the University of Nairobi community in mourning, with students demanding justice and pleading with the authorities to strengthen security measures for students living outside the campus.

Jane’s murder adds to the growing number of young women who have lost their lives in mysterious and violent circumstances.

A woman is found dead in a sewer in Kakamega

Just a day earlier, the police in Kakamega county began investigating the mysterious death of 21-year-old Wendy Edda, whose decomposing body was found in a drain near her family home in Jua Kali Phase 2 Estate.

He went missing on Friday, October 24, and was found three days later.

Her family dismissed suggestions that the young woman fell into the hole for luck bad, claiming he was hurt before being thrown there.

They remembered that a man who lived nearby was threatening her after she rejected his marriage proposal.
