“We ask the leadership and members of the party to unite around the dreams and aspirations of the late leader for his beloved movement, and work together. Indeed, no one will be able to fill the great space left by Raila, but together, unity of purpose will be the key to get through the next 14 months. Any ideological and political competition within the movement must remain healthy, as Raila himself wanted, as he seeks to lay a solid foundation for the next election and beyond, so that ODM as a national party and the most important party in 20 years ago don’t disappear,” Sifuna said.
Amid the emerging fissures, the meeting led by Oburu agreed that the post-Raila period will be difficult, but vowed to press on.
“The period after Raila will be difficult without a doubt. But we do not have enough time, as the 20th anniversary celebrations and the November 27 by-election are things to consider,” they said.
The committee warned leaders who want to inherit Raila’s political stronghold, saying that the former prime minister had built a movement that no one can inherit.

Who can succeed Raila Odinga?
They vowed to remain united and continue the struggle for a better Kenya that works for every child, regardless of their ethnicity.
“Baba built this movement on the foundation of values, democracy, equality, inclusion and truth. ODM is not just a political party; it is a covenant. Let us resist the temptation to disperse in despair, or fight for political succession as leaders often do when giants fall. Raila’s true legacy is not a name or title, but a mission. The mission is to continue the struggle of Kenya that works for all its children, regardless of race, class or creed,” Sifuna said.
