President William Ruto has joined Kenyans in mourning the death of veteran broadcaster Sammy Lui, who was the master of ceremonies at the State House.

Lui’s voice was popular during national events and on radio throughout the country.
The son of the deceased, Chris Wangondu, disclosed to the media that his father died peacefully on Thursday, October 23.
Did Ruto cry for Sammy Lui?
The country’s leader used his social media to pay emotional tributes to Lui, calling him the respected Grand Master of National Ceremonies.
Mentioning the roles that Lui played in the country, Ruto said that Lui’s impressive work attracted those who listened to him and wanted to be like him.
“From his early days as one of Kenya’s pioneering journalists at the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation to his time at the Presidential Information Service, and later, as Director of National Events, his powerful voice was a familiar song to Kenyans. His immense contribution to our news industry will never be forgotten,” Ruto’s statement read in part.
Ruto ended his message by offering his condolences to family, friends, and the media community.
Other politicians, including the Nairobi women’s representative Esther Passarisalso mourned Lui while mourning with his family and friends. “My condolences to the family and friends of veteran broadcaster and presidential MC Sammy Lui. Sammy was a brilliant voice, a singular presence, and a true professional who graced our national events with excellence and dignity. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” Passaris said.
Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Lee Kinyanjui, also paid emotional tributes to Lui, calling him an inspiration.
“Sammy Lui’s voice was familiar on the radio and on our TV screens. His captivating narration during public events, while serving in the Presidential Information Service, left a lasting impression. He was a true inspiration to the Master of Ceremonies. Rest in Peace, Lui,” he said.

The veteran broadcaster was the founder of the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) English Service, where he demonstrated his proficiency in the English language.

Lui also served as one of the presenters at the Kenya Television Network (KTN). He helped shape the media landscape.
He served as director of events for the presidency of Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi, the second president of Kenya.
As an MC, he presided over many national holidays, parades and official events, which earned him respect from people from all walks of life.
His frequent appearances in government events made him very popular.
