In an action related to the inheritance of the Odinga family, Lwam asked to manage the late Fidel’s unclaimed financial assets. This was announced to the public through a newspaper notice issued on Friday, October 17, by the Unclaimed Financial Assets Authority.
Did Fidel Odinga’s widow claim his assets?
The request was announced by the Unclaimed Financial Assets Authority (UFAA) in a newspaper notice written on Friday, October 17.
The authority said that it has received claims from several people, including Lwam, who want to be appointed as administrators of the assets of the deceased whose assets are still unclaimed.
According to UFAA procedures, applicants must submit the required forms, provide proof of relationship, and obtain non-objection letters from other beneficiaries. The authority also allows 30 days for any counterclaim.
If no objections are received within that time, the assets are officially handed over to the authorized administrator.
The notice noted that, unless a valid objection is filed within the prescribed time, Fidel Odinga’s unclaimed assets will be transferred to the petitioner.
“The Unclaimed Financial Assets Authority has received claims for unclaimed assets from the following persons, claiming as administrators of the estate of the deceased and agents of the previous owners. Unless objections to such claims are submitted to the Authority’s offices within thirty (30) days from this date, payment shall be made to the person named above.”
Fidel married Lwam in 2012, and they had one child together. Their marriage ended in 2014. Fidel, Raila Odinga’s eldest son, died in January 2015.
The owner of those assets is Gulf African Bank Limited.
Did Fidel Odinga’s widow take her family to court?
In 2022, after many years of legal disputes, the Odinga family finally reached an agreement regarding the management of the estate of the late Fidel Odinga.
Lwam was confirmed to be the co-manager of the property with Raila Odinga Junior.
The assets, worth about KSh 40 million, included land, cars, and several bank accounts.
