Raila Odinga: Yaibuda Gachagua Prepared to Land in Bondo to Pay Respect Before Kahiga’s Remarks

New information has emerged that the former vice president Rigathi Gachagua he had planned to visit the grave of the late Raila Odinga in Kang’o Ka Jaramogi area in Bondo, Siaya county.

The visit was scheduled for Wednesday, October 22, but was canceled at the last minute following an online video of Nyeri governor Mutahi Kahiga “celebrating” Raila’s death.

Sources revealed that Gachagua was ready to pay his respects after skipping the national funeral service at Nyayo grounds in Nairobi and the burial ceremony held at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST) on Sunday, October 19.

What did Mutahi Kahiga say about Raila’s death?

In the video, Kahiga, speaking in the Kikuyu language, described Raila’s death as a “blessing” for the Mount Kenya region.

He claimed that the area with many votes was excluded from development projects since the collaboration between Raila and the President William Ruto.

His remarks were strongly condemned by different political parties, while ODM leaders described them as “indifferent and shameful.”

Governor of Homa Bay and deputy chairman of the ODM party Gladys Wanga led the criticism, saying Kahiga’s words reflected the political culture of Gachagua’s allies who often used Raila’s name for political gain.

“What I know is that Kahiga does not speak for himself. He is Gachagua’s spokesperson. Earlier Gachagua mocked Raila’s illness and even joked that he was a virus and Stephen Kalonzo bacteria. So far, he has not mourned Raila. The same Raila who ventured into political tension to mourn his brother Nderitu Gachagua,” Wanga said.

He added that anyone who collaborates with Gachagua and his force cannot be considered friends of the Nyanza area.

“The law is simple. The friend of your enemy is your enemy. The line has been drawn,” he said.

Speaking during a press conference, the MCA of Milimani of Soko la Poisonous Seth Ochieng Kanga, popularly known as Adui Nyang, warned Gachagua against visiting Raila’s home, saying his presence would not be accepted.

“We heard that Gachagua and his team were planning to pay respects to Raila’s house. We encourage him, never. Do not step on Bondo, because your statements are not friendly to us,” Kanga said.

He called for calm among the party’s supporters, urging them to handle the matter carefully as ODM leaders seek a collective response to what they termed as a direct insult to Raila’s legacy.
