Nairobi – Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Edwin Sifuna has given his opinion regarding the controversial remarks of Nyeri governor Mutahi Kahiga.

Kahiga, a close ally of former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua’ has been trending after he was caught on camera celebrating the death of Raila Amollo Odinga.
Did Mutahi Kahiga celebrate the death of Raila Odinga?
Speaking at the funeral in Kieni, Kahiga said the death of the ODM leader is a blessing for the Mt Kenya area.
Kahiga’s remarks drew sharp criticism from Kenyans, including leaders who called them inappropriate.
Governor of Homa Bay Gladys Wanga issued a statement demanding that Kahiga be fired from his post as deputy chairman of the Council of Governors (CoG).

What Edwin Sifuna said about Kahiga’s remarks
Responding to Kahiga’s remarks, Sifuna said it was no secret that some people hated the former prime minister when he was alive.
The ODM Secretary General noted that despite the hatred directed at Raila in the past, he never imagined that some people would continue to express it a few days after his burial.
However, the Nairobi senator called for calm, saying Raila always taught Kenyans to respond with love.
According to Sifuna, if Raila were alive, he would have organized a lunch meeting with the governor of Nyeri.
“We know there are those who hated Baba, but it is still surprising to hear. Mutahi Kahiga is the worst of the bunch, but Baba taught us to always respond with love. If he was still around, the next thing you would see is him having lunch with Kahiga,” Sifuna said.

Governor of Kirinyaga Anne Waiguru he also criticized the controversial remarks of his colleague from Nyeri.
In a message on his Twitter account, Waiguru said Kahiga’s remarks are personal and do not represent the views of the people of Mount Kenya and its leadership.
Waiguru stressed that the Mt Kenya area is in solidarity with the whole of Kenya in mourning Raila, a prominent politician.
Did Kimani Ichung’wah slander Mutahi Kahiga?
The leader of the majority in the National Assembly Kimani Ichung’wah also issued a strong statement criticizing Kahiga.
The Kikuyu MP seemed to suggest that the Nyeri governor was speaking on behalf of the former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua.
Meanwhile, the Council of Governors (CoG) convened an emergency meeting on Wednesday, October 22, following the Nyeri governor’s remarks.
In a strongly worded statement, CoG chairman Ahmed Abdullahi, who is Kahiga’s deputy, expressed deep regret at the governor’s remarks, calling them ‘indifference, treachery, sadness, and misfortune.’
