Uhuru Kenyatta Leaves Raila A Message After Visiting His Grave: “I Will Visit You Often”

Raila was buried on Sunday, October 19, at his ancestral home Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, next to the grave of his late father Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.

Uhuru was among the prominent leaders led by the President William Rutowho attended to honor the deceased in his last journey on earth.

But after the leaders and other mourners left, Uhuru stayed behind to console the family members.

On Monday, October 20, Uhuru he visited Raila’s gravewhere he once again honored the deceased leader.

Uhuru, accompanied by the family of the deceased, visited the grave whose cement was still drying a day after the burial.

He was accompanied by Odinga’s immediate family, including his widow Mama Ida OdingaSiaya Senator Oburu Oginga who is also Raila’s elder brother, and Ruth Adhiambo, Raila’s younger sister who is also the representative of women in Kisumu County.

In a scene that was sad and quiet, Uhuru raised his hand on the grave while praying and remained silent for a short time.

After that, he was taken inside the Jaramogi Mausoleum, where he was shown the historical objects kept there.

It is reported that he wanted enough time to mourn his friend after the national funeral was over.

Later he stayed for a while in Raila’s house as a guest of his widow.

Uhuru wrote and signed a condolence book, in which he honored Raila and promised to visit his grave regularly as a sign of remembrance.

“Brother, rest in peace, I will be visiting you often. Rest in peace.”

The death of Raila Odinga

Raila died on Wednesday, October 15, while receiving treatment in South India.

He died at Devamatha Hospital, where he was rushed after suffering a heart attack.

Raila was on his morning walk when he fainted and was short of breath.

At the Devamatha hospital, doctors tried to bring him back to normal but were unsuccessful.

The cardiologist’s report showed that when he was brought to the hospital there was no audible heartbeat.

He was immediately placed in the intensive care unit (ICU), and doctors placed an air tube to help him breathe, as he was struggling to inhale and exhale.

Despite these efforts, the 80-year-old Raila died while undergoing treatment.

Additional tests revealed that Raila had diabetes, kidney problems, Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) in the right leg, and a history of frequent loss of consciousness.

In addition to CPR, doctors also used an IVC filter device to monitor the possibility of blood clots due to DVT, as well as injections and thrombolysis to help dissolve any blood clots that may have formed in his veins.

His body was transported to Kenya by plane Kenya Airwaysand was received on the morning of October 15 at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

Why was Raila Odinga given a national funeral?

As previously announced, Raila was buried on Sunday, October 19, the culmination of all the national activities held in his honour.

After confirming Raila’s death, President William Ruto announced that the deceased would be given a national funeral with full military honours.

Ruto said Raila was a brave citizen who sacrificed his whole life for the welfare of the nation.

The country declared a seven-day period of mourning, with national flags flying at half-mast in all official places until the time of the funeral.

In addition, Raila was given a 17-gun salute from the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) who supervised the national funeral.
