The new spokesperson of the Opposition Mukhisa Kituyi has joined Kenyans in mourning the death of the former prime minister Raila Odinga.

He took the opportunity to pay emotional tribute to the fallen political leader, recounting the moment that stood out to him.

Speaking during an interview with NTV, Mukhisa recalled the time in the 90s when he hid the late ODM leader in his home when the police were tracking him.
Mukhisa said that Raila had just been arrested and that there were plans to arrest him again, which prompted him to save his partner.
“I have known Raila very closely in different phases, first when he was released from detention. Those were the years when we were in the process of creating a precursor to the Reformation, and later there were plans to re-arrest him and detain him. During that period I hid Raila in my house for a while,” Mukhisa said.

“My wife was driving while Raila was disguised as an old lady with glasses in the back of the car with me. We aimed to drive to the basement of the American Embassy to see if we could be admitted to the United States as refugees,” he added.

He said Raila had a blood clotting problem and was receiving treatment locally to control steroids, which caused fatigue.
The family then decided to take him to India for rest and treatment using traditional medicine, according to Oburu.
He added that Raila had plans to travel to Dubai on Friday, October 17, where he was scheduled to meet him.
Oburu said that on Wednesday, October 15, Raila was well and even went for a walk with his daughter Winnie.
Unfortunately, the disease hit hard. The efforts of the doctors to revive him seemed to be in vain. He was rushed to the intensive care unit (ICU), where he passed away.
